Licensing

Our software is licensed under our Licensing agreement that is displayed during the install of any of our software.

When you purchase any of our software, you are given a unique invoice that lists the purchased software on it. This invoice is used to identify your purchase as well as used to activate your selected software. This invoice has a unique 'Invoice Number' listed on the invoice itself that will allow our programs to access and use the 'User License(s)' associated with that specific invoice.

We consider our licenses to be *perpetual* licenses. We say *perpetual* license in asterisks because the IRS changes its regulations every year. Although you may own the program for 2021, when the IRS makes it regulatory changes for the year of 2022, your 2021 program is now considered, obsolete. The program still functions, and you can view your files, but if you tried filing any data to the IRS, the file would come back 'Bad' as the format that the 2021 program would export the IRS data in, would not match the new 2022 regulatory changes the IRS made. All of the programs handle opening and manipulating the current year and any previous years' data. So, if you own the current year's program, you do not need any of the previous years' software to file or manipulate data for a previous year file.

We define the term 'User License' as a single windows user per workstation. This means that if there were 2 separate computers with the same user using both computers, you would need 2 'User Licenses' for that one user. This is because each windows machine holds unique data for user (the reason we specify 'windows user') that is not shared between computers. For more information on how this can cause problems with servers, please see our 'Server Limitations' page.

An 'Invoice Number' is comprised of a singular letter followed by 9 numbers (we used 8 numbers for many years but started transitioning to 9 number starting in 2019).

This purchase is considered by us to be a *perpetual* license for the specific program for that specific year. This means that if you purchased 1099 Express for 2021, as long as you keep that 'Invoice Number' and deactivate it when moving between computer, you should always be able to enter that 'Invoice Number' into that year (2021 in this case) program and be able to activate at any time even in later years.

A single 'Invoice Number' can be used to activate multiple different programs and/or multiple of the same program depending on how many licenses were purchased on that invoice. The number of licenses can be calculated by taking the X-User License count (Ex. 2-User License) and multiply it by the quantity listed on the invoice (Ex. 3 quantity of a 2-User License would be 6 activations for that year's program).
